Voki.com Review

After looking at various websites such as Glogster.com, Wordle.com and educationeye.org.uk. I find that the website I like the most is Voki.com. It is a place where you can create an avatar unique to yourself and use it as a learning tool.

While it does seem like a useful tool, there is a drawback. For certain things you can get them for free, however anything more than the basic package and you have to pay for it. There is also the fact that it is in American Dollars which leads me to be 99% sure that this is an American based website.

While it can be useful in classrooms and home settings there is the fact that you have to pay for anything more than the basic package and what could be an amazing useful tool for learning is then turned into expensive and if you want to pay for learning you could just hire a tutor or go to boarding school.

Blog Review

For reviewing a blog, I wasn't sure what to do at first, but after looking around I have found a blog that is educational and stimulates the brain. The Learning Spy by David Didau has a tagline 'Brain food for the thinking teacher'. The tagline was what really caught my attention, because I've always assumed that my teachers were always thinking, thinking about homework, marks, lesson plans etc. and seeing the tagline made me wonder.

The Learning Spy makes me wonder whether my teachers, actually listened to our complaints and ideas for the curriculum and if they just disregarded them. David Didau was frustrated by the current state of education and after starting his blog in 2011, he has managed to make changes. Didau managed to get OFSTED to listen and make changes based on his advice, he's written two books and works with schools to improve. After seeing such improvements that came about after blogging, then I have to wonder why did none of my teachers try to do such a thing or why didn't they talk at one of their courses, teachers so frequently go on.

The Learning Spy has really opened my eyes and it makes me want to be a better teacher then the ones I received. If I could make such a huge difference in the world of education by blogging about it, then I wouldn't stop.

Pros and Cons

When you are a university student, life can become extremely hectic for you. Everyone wants you to do one thing when you are trying to do another thing and it just gets all out of hand. When trying to revise I like to go over and over my notes, however sometimes I like to mind map things, which is why I am glad that I was introduced to bubbl.us It is an easy to use, mind map creator.

The very first thing to do is to create an account and the good thing is you can do it for free. After doing so, you are then free to create a mind map of whatever you and you can personalise it with any colour you want.

However, there is a downside to this. After creating a free account you can only do THREE mind maps at a time unless you wish to pay for to do more. So if you do THREE and wish to do another, you must be prepared to either pay or delete one of your mind maps. So if you wish to do as I do and go over your notes and mind map then bubbl.us is perfect for you.

An Inspirational Video

To me, this video is extremely inspirational because it gives me hope of a better world and a better quality of life. If this technology becomes common in hospitals, then they will catch cancer at an early age and be able to save so many more lives with it, because as mentioned in the video, 1 in 3 people will get cancer and 1 in 4 people will die because of it.

I have personal experience with cancer as my sister, my uncle and my granddad had it. Fortunately, both my sister and my uncle had been caught early enough to fight the battle with cancer and win. Unfortunately, my granddad's cancer had been caught too late and he passed away sadly two years ago. If this technology was around when my granddad got ill, maybe he would still be here today.

This technology gives me hope, that if anyone else I know and love, is diagnosed with cancer then it will be caught early enough so that they can survive and live another day. The talk was inspiring because instead of just falling apart when his aunt when diagnosed, Soto actively tried to make sure that this would never happen again to a different family.

When selecting a website for research the two web address that you can trust without fail are .ac and .gov  You can trust these because .gov is a Government website and as such all information has been posted by the Government and is reliable and valid.
